Carlos Gomez has been traded after all.
Gomez and Michael Fiers are headed to Houston in exchange for four major Astros prospects: outfielder Brett Phillips, outfielder Domingo Santana, left-handed pitcher Josh Hader, and right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser.
After last night’s strange turn of events with the Brewers trade with the Mets, Gomez will indeed be traded. The Brewers were shopping Fiers, and paired him with a hot commodity to help their return.
The Astros prospects are all top 25 in their system; Phillips (2), Santana (7), Hader (14), and Houser (21). According to our writer and Astros die-hard Jeremy Gopin, here is some analysis on the four prospects.
- Phillips: I hate to see him the 21-year old go. He’s definitely the headliner of the deal. Center fielder who will be up next year.
- Santana: Strikes out a lot, but has very good power to right center. He played much better his second time up. See this video of home run against Rockies this year.
- Hader: He will be mid to back end rotation. Pitched very well in high A in one of the best hitters parks.
- Houser: Do not know much about him, but he’s highly-regarded, a big guy, and only 22.
The Brewers definitely got a helluva return, and truly replenished their struggling minor league system with this deal. Gerardo Parra will likely play some center field now unless he’s traded. According to the Brewers, RHP Adrian Houser, LHP Josh Hader & OF Brett Phillips have been assigned to Double-A. OF Domingo Santana has been assigned to Triple-A.
