Early Thursday, the Wisconsin men’s basketball Twitter account announced that Bronson Koenig will not play against Michigan, and true freshman D’Mitrik Trice will get his first career start in Koenig’s place.

Trice is averaging 5.5 points per game to go along with 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He put up a career-high 16 points in early December against Oklahoma on 6/8 shooting. His current 46% three-point field goal shooting would put him at fourth overall in the Big Ten if he qualified with minimum attempts.

Koenig, who is second on the Badgers at 13.4 PPG, has been shooting just 25% over his last five games since sustaining a lower leg injury vs. Penn State on January 24th. Koenig has only missed one other game in his four-year career at Wisconsin, the second game of his freshman year against Florida.
