The Brewers are trading again with only a few hours leading up to the trade deadline.
Gerardo Parra, who has had a breakout year for Milwaukee, will be heading to the Orioles in exchange for their #3 overall prospect: starting pitcher Zach Davies.
Parra is having the best offensive season of his career, hitting .328 with 9 home runs and 31 RBIs to go along with a Gold Glove caliber performance in the outfield. After being traded for OF Mitch Haniger from the Diamondbacks last season, Parra was a hot commodity with his expiring contract. He was a valuable replacement for several injuries to the outfield, especially for Khris Davis this season. The former Gold Glover and beloved clubhouse player will add some necessary outfield help to the Orioles.
Davies is listed at 6’0″ and 150 pounds, but don’t let his size fool you. In AAA Norfolk this season, he was 5-6 with 2.84 ERA in 19 games. As a 26th round pick in the 2011 amateur draft, Davies’ best pitch is his changeup. Scouts have been scared about his size, but his minor league numbers show that he is ready to make an impact on the major league level.Overall, this was a great trade for the Brewers as Parra’s value skyrocketed as the season went on. Davies, along with Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana who were traded for Carlos Gomez, could make the Brewers major league roster next season.
In the mean time, Shane Peterson and Logan Schafer will likely play center field, and Domingo Santana could be called up to take Parra’s roster spot.
