Former Wisconsin forward and Milwaukee native Marcus Landry is expected to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks today after a workout with the team, per the Racine Journal Times‘ Gery Woelfel. The 6’7″, 230 pound small forward will turn 30 in November and has been playing in Spain the past two seasons.
From our own “Where Are They Now? Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Players” piece from June 22, the following traces Landry’s path up until this point.
“In the news…for saying Kristaps Porzingis should be the #1 overall pick in…NBA Draft, Landry was teammates with Porzingis during his tenure with Sevilla in Spain. Landry went undrafted in 2009, but was signed by the New York Knicks and actually traded to the Boston Celtics in 2010 along with Nate Robinson. He has played in the D-League, and even got to play with his brother Carl briefly in Sacramento, despite never playing in a game for the Kings. Landry has played around the world as well, in Puerto Rico, China, Venezuela, and with his current club in Zaragoza, Spain.”
Landry attended Milwaukee Vincent High School, where he was a Division I state champion, unanimous All-State selection, and averaged 16.1 PPG, 5.9 RPG, and shot 59% from the field his senior year.
Landry averaged 9.2 PPG and 4.2 RPG throughout his time at Wisconsin, where he played four years from 2005 to 2009. including 12.7 PPG and 4.6 RPG his senior year.
The Bucks have not announced anything official, but it appears Landry will be at training camp with a chance to make the team, as the Bucks do have the 15th roster spot up for grabs.
