Over the weekend, CBS Sports reported that Khris Middleton is expected to sign a quick deal with the Bucks, which Milwaukee fans will be happy about. Middleton re-signing comes with little surprise, as the Bucks recently cleared cap space by trading Ersan Ilyasova to the Detroit Pistons.
Middleton undoubtedly became one of the Bucks’ most important players this past season on both sides of the floor. He averaged 13.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 2.3 APG to go with stellar defense at the shooting guard position. His length and defensive ability are part of the Bucks’ future plans under Coach Jason Kidd and his excellent staff.
The question remains at what price the Bucks will be signing Middleton, presumably the maximum. The max was $14,670,000 per year in 2014, and this number will go up as the salary cap is increasing and the rule for players with six years or less experience is $9,000,000/year or 25% of the salary cap. I would expect the contract to be a little less than the max, as the Bucks do not seem to have to leverage money with other teams to keep Middleton in Milwaukee.
We will keep you up to date on Middleton’s contract, which will be negotiated in the coming weeks, and hopefully officially announced very soon.
