With 17 days until College Gameday at Lambeau Field, fall camp for the Wisconsin Badgers is hitting the midway point.

Daily quarterback update, with input from a wide receiver

At Wednesday’s practice, both Bart Houston and Alex Hornibrook threw interceptions, but both looked as sharp as they have all camp. The two completed most of their passes, both converting on a couple longer passes as well during the team period of practice.

With the starting job spot still up for grabs, Wisconsin’s receivers also have to prepare for either of the two to start. But that shouldn’t be a problem, at least for junior wide out George Rushing.

“For myself I just tell just throw it and I’ll catch it wherever you throw it,” Rushing said. “Just give me a chance and I try and go get it. They’re both good and I trust both of them and I have good relationships with both of them.

Deal brushes off injury

With the season fast approaching, things are coming together and plays are getting off quicker.

“Practice was really good, getting out there with the guys, coming out every day just getting better, it’s starting to get more and more fun; today was a great day,” sophomore running back Taiwan Deal said.

Deal, who was limited in Wednesday’s practice due to a shoulder injury coming off of Monday’s scrimmage, still got plenty of work in. He has moved to the second spot on the RB depth chart behind Corey Clement and ahead of Dare Ogunbowale, according to UWBadgers.com’s Andy Baggot.

On his injury, Deal said, “It’s fine, getting through that, coming back out strong. I’m a very tough, competitive guy, you can’t keep me down for too long.”

Rushing on special teams

Special team units are also coming together midway through fall camp as athletic players fight for the return spot. George Rushing and Corey Clement are two players taking reps as return men.

“I mean really, I don’t care how they get me the ball, kick return, punt return, receiver,” Rushing said. “I just want it and I think I can make plays.”

Rushing has received the majority of reps in the punt return game.
