Former Brewers draft pick Donny Everett passes away

Donny Everett, one of the highly touted pitchers in college baseball, died after a drowning accident last Thursday at Normandy Lake in Coffee County. This year on the Vanderbilt Commodores, Everett finished his freshman regular season with a 1-0 record and a 1.50 ERA in 12 innings of work. He was anticipating on playing in the NCAA Regional this weekend with his teammates.

With heavy hearts, Vanderbilt was eliminated in the tournament by University of Washington on Friday. They were the number one seed in their region heading into the weekend so the loss of their teammate had an obvious emotional impact on the players throughout the tournament.

Before attending Vanderbilt, Everett starred at Clarksville High graduating in 2015 as Tennessee’s Gatorade Player of the Year. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 29th round of the MLB draft last year but decided to forgo the offer and attend Vanderbilt due to the educational opportunity.

The funeral ceremony is scheduled for this Tuesday, as the entire baseball team will be in attendance as well as other members from the baseball community. He was 19 years old.
