Recently appointed head coach Tony Granato has signed three players for the 2016-2017 men’s hockey campaign. Goalies Jack Berry and Johan Blomquist and blue-liner James Greenway will all join the Badgers in time for next season.
Berry, standing at 6’2″, is a native of Holly, Michigan and played for the Junior Titans during the 2015-2016 season, making 23 appearances. The left-handed goalie looked solid last year, racking up a 12-8-2 record. Berry played the 2014-2015 season with the Soo Eagles of the NAHL.
The much smaller (5-11) Johan Blomquist hails from Stockholm, Sweden, and played the 2015-2016 season with the Connecticut Jr. Rangers. He struggled in goal for much of this past season, but performed well in the playoffs. Blomquist played his 2014-2015 season with the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.
“They will both add goaltending depth and they will both push Matt Jurusik,” Granato said about the pair of goalie signees.
James “JD” Greenway, a 6’4″ defenseman, will become the fifth Badger ranked by NHL Central Scouting for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Greenway brings plenty of international hockey experience, as he has spent the last two seasons playing for the U.S. National Team Development Program.
“We are fortunate to get him late in the recruiting season with him coming off a great U-18 tournament,” Granato said about Greenway.
