Breaking news out of Pittsburgh as it appears Jordy Nelson has torn his ACL after falling untouched in the first quarter after a catch. Nothing is confirmed as we await the MRI results, but the initial diagnosis is that he has tore his ACL.
Nelson, Aaron Rodgers’ top target and a top 10 wide receiver in the NFL, will likely miss the entire season if the results remain true. His presence on the field will be missed badly, and second-year receiver Davante Adams will be asked to really step up.
The Kansas State product had 98 catches for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. In his career, Nelson has 400 catches for over 6,000 yards and 49 touchdowns.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport broke the news on Twitter during the third quarter of the Packers’ preseason game.
Cornerback Damarious Randall (dehydration), offensive guard T.J. Lang (concussion), quarterback Scott Tolzien (concussion) and quarterback Aaron Rodgers (arm wrapped up) were also injured or taken to the locker room on the day. Rodgers affirmed he could have continued to play if it was still a regular season game.
It was not a good day for the Pack, who also lost the game 24-19.
