It was a day of wind, rain, and delays at St. Andrews; but, it didn’t stop Jordan Niebrugge from shooting only one over par, putting his overall score to four under par. With a 67 on Thursday and a 73 today (140 total), Niebrugge will make the cut for the first time at a major. All players with scores greater than 145 (+1) are projected to be cut according to ESPN.
Sitting tied for 20th on the leaderboard, Niebrugge will be grouped alongside some of the game’s greats tomorrow afternoon, and then regrouped again on Sunday. We won’t know until tomorrow who these groups will be, as play for the later groups was suspended until tomorrow due to darkness.
Niebrugge will be ready to go whenever his group is called. He told me the conditions were definitely not ideal, but he played through them: “It played really tough out there today, and I’m happy with how I stuck in there!”
Dustin Johnson leads the British Open still, only atop the field at -10 with seven holes to go in his suspended second round.
