Tyler Herro has emerged as the Milwaukee Bucks’ primary offensive option and is producing some of the best numbers of his career. Still, his late-game performance has raised concerns about whether he can reliably close out tight contests.
Late-game numbers that worry the Bucks
In the moments that matter most, Herro’s production has been uneven. In four appearances defined as the final five minutes with the teams within five points, he has scored just seven points, converting only 2-of-8 field-goal attempts.

Tyler Herro’s late-game inconsistency keeps him from becoming a clear No. 1

That 25 percent shooting clip in those situations ranks among the lowest for players who have taken eight or more shots in the clutch this season — trailing only Dallas guard Kyrie Irving, who is at 22.2 percent. Herro has also gone 1-of-4 from the foul line in those stretches and recorded two turnovers against one assist, a ratio that undercuts late-game efficiency.
The simple corrective is straightforward: when a game is on the line, the team needs him to put the ball through the hoop. That has not happened consistently so far.
Context: the team around him and the broader picture
Herro is not the only reason Milwaukee has faltered late. The roster relies heavily on young players who are being asked to take on larger roles.
For example, Jaime Jaquez Jr. failed to convert on his combined field-goal and free-throw attempts in those situations, while Ryan Rollins is 0-of-2 from the field and 2-of-4 from the line — indicators of the growing pains a youthful rotation can produce.
Still, Herro remains under extra scrutiny because he is viewed as the team’s primary option and, according to the current timeline, will be entering free agency next summer looking to secure a significant contract. Strong closing performances in late-game moments would strengthen his case.
The sample size is small, and there is time for adjustment. For now, Milwaukee will be watching whether Herro can translate his season-long production into reliable late-game execution.
