Wisconsin unveiled a special all‑red uniform for its Big Ten homecoming matchup with Michigan State, aligning the look with a campus-wide “Red‑Out.” The timing follows the Badgers’ momentum-shifting road comeback at No. 13 Penn State and arrives as the program seeks to re‑energize its fanbase.
The team quietly posted images of the alternate set on social media Saturday morning, teasing the crowd theme. The university had already asked fans to wear the program’s signature Cardinal Red for Week 5, and the new jerseys complete the visual plan for the stadium.
These are not entirely new pieces. Wisconsin previously used the same red jersey at last season’s homecoming against Iowa, but then paired it with white pants and a white helmet featuring the old‑school block “W.” That earlier version did not include the Culver’s sleeve patch.

Design shift: all red, flipped helmet
For this homecoming, the Badgers are going full red. The look pairs the red jersey with matching red pants and an inverted helmet design that flips the color scheme used last year.

The program has worn alternate uniforms only sporadically under head coach Luke Fickell. Still, homecoming continues to be a favored occasion for special uniforms — most notably the metallic Shamrock Series alternates used in the opener against Notre Dame this season.
Why the timing matters
Wisconsin’s decision to roll out a coordinated fan and team look comes on the heels of a signature win in Happy Valley. That comeback victory has nudged the Badgers back into national discussion and put them on the edge of the AP Top‑25.
National expectations have not shifted toward Big Ten title or College Football Playoff contention. But the win provided a clear boost in credibility, and the program appears intent on using this stretch to recapture attention and reengage a fanbase that had been, by some measures, somewhat dormant.
Homecoming weekend already brings heavy activity to Madison. The timing coincides with the men’s hockey season opening and a packed calendar of campus events, helping fuel what players and supporters have described as a renewed buzz around the program.
