Former Wisconsin cornerback returns to college to join an SEC program

Show summary Hide summary

Former Wisconsin cornerback D’Yoni Hill is headed to Oklahoma after one season with the Badgers, a move that could have an immediate impact on the Sooners’ secondary. His transfer comes amid ongoing eligibility disputes that, for now, allow him to play in Norman as the 2026 season progresses.

Transfer reported to Oklahoma

Hill’s decision to enroll at Oklahoma was reported by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. The cornerback, who started nine games for Wisconsin during the 2025 season, is expected to join the Sooners’ roster even though his name does not yet appear on the official 2026 list.

Because a Cleveland County District Court issued a temporary restraining order affecting eight athletes seeking an extra year of eligibility — Hill included — he is currently cleared to take the field for Oklahoma.

Hill’s collegiate path and experience

Hill arrives in Norman after a winding five-year college career. He began at Marshall, appearing in 10 games as a freshman and 13 as a sophomore. He then spent a season at Miami, playing in 11 games and starting five contests in 2024, before transferring to Wisconsin for the 2025 campaign.

Hill built a reputation for physical tackling through his college career.

At Wisconsin he logged 386 snaps across nine starts. Statistically, last season was a mixed bag: quarterbacks completed 21 of 30 targets when covering him, a 70% reception rate, though he finished the year known for physical tackling.

Across his career Hill has totaled 23 starts and 1,452 snaps, giving Oklahoma a player with established Power Four experience rather than an untested midseason addition.

Where he might fit with the Sooners

Oklahoma’s cornerback room already includes Courtland Guillory, Eli Bowen and nickelback Reggie Powers III. How Hill is deployed — as an outside starter, nickel option or situational depth — will be one of the early coaching puzzles after his arrival.

With the season underway and quality veteran corners scarce on the market, Hill offers immediate depth and experience. If roster paperwork and travel clearances remain intact, he could be available as soon as Oklahoma’s next game, when the Sooners face Michigan.

What to watch next

Keep an eye on official roster updates from Oklahoma and any follow-up reporting on the court case that affected the eligibility claims. If Hill suits up, a potential matchup with former opponents — including the referenced Bryce Underwood — would provide an early gauge of how quickly he can slot into the Sooners’ defense.
