Brewers second basemen Scooter Gennett, one of the hottest hitters on the team, is being put on the 15-day DL with right oblique tightness.
Gennett was second on the team with four home runs, tied for the team lead in walks with 10, and had a .516 slugging percentage. Along with putting Gennett on the DL, the Brewers put pitcher Matt Garza on the 60-day DL and called up infielder Hernan Perez from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Perez was called up to fill the spot and could potentially fill Gennett’s spot in the lineup. In Triple-A Colorado Springs, Perez was batting for a .339 average and has 11 RBIs to go along with one home run.
Another candidate to fill Gennett’s spot in the lineup is utility infielder Yadiel Rivera ,who has struggled coming into the beginning of the season. But an increase in at-bats could see production that was similar to Rivera’s spring training where he hit for a .292 average, a .924 OPS and hit three home runs.
Either way, Brewers are going to miss Gennett’s hot bat as they take on the Chicago Cubs and their ace Jake Arrieta.
