After interviewing for weeks for the Pittsburgh Pirates play-by-play job, Brewers play-by-play #2 radio man Joe Block will in fact be heading to Pittsburgh. Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a statement that Pittsburgh had more than 225 qualified candidates.

It was public knowledge that the Brewers were anticipating Block’s departure. In response, the Brewers officially announced that Jeff Levering, who would fill for Bob Uecker on the road and other miscellaneous games last season, will take over Block’s role.

The Brewers have opened up Levering’s old position, which includes other media responsibilities, not just play-by-play. Brewers Vice President of Communications Tyler Barnes told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Haudricourt that the team has received over 200 applications thus far.
