After a three-month break since the end of the Fed-Ex Cup, the 2016 PGA Tour season begins today at 2:20 pm CST with the winners from last year’s PGA events facing off in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. With the start of the PGA Season, I have made 10 bold predictions on what to expect throughout the year.

10 Bold Predictions

  1. The sophomore class of PGA pros will make their mark. Watch out in particular for Rookie of the Year Daniel Berger, as well as Tony Finau, Justin Thomas and Patrick Rodgers.
  2. There will no longer be a wide margin between the top three (Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, and Rory McIlroy). It will instead be a top six, adding on Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson, and Hideki Matsuyama.
  3. While there will be a clear elite group of six, Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler, Jimmy Walker, Zach Johnson and Patrick Reed will combine for more wins on tour than the top six.
  4. There will be a different winner for every major this year, including the Olympics.
  5. Dustin Johnson will overcome his 4th round major collapses and win The Masters this year.
  6. One of the older American golfers will outmatch one of the yonger American golfers to claim the fourth and final spot on the olympic team. Watch out in particular for Jim Furyk or Phil Mickelson to overtake Rickie Fowler or Zach Johnson for that honor.
  7. Only golfers outside of the top 30 in the world will medal in the Olympics with the Argentine rookie Emiliano Grillo taking the top prize.
  8. Tiger Woods will not play in any tournaments this year. He will, however, take on an active role as the vice captain for the 2016 Ryder Cup team.
  9. The Americans, led by Davis Love III, will outmatch Darren Clarke and the Europeans at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota.
  10. Steve Stricker, in what is most likely his last season on the PGA Tour, will win a tournament this year, most likely the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run.
