Now that LeBron James is headed to Los Angeles, Giannis Antetokounmpo could very well be the best player in the Eastern Conference, and he was introduced today as the cover athlete for the Standard Edition of NBA 2K19, available in stores on September 11th.

While it is an honor for Giannis, and he has expressed his gratitude via Twitter, it could be cause for concern for more superstitious fans. You’ve probably heard of the Madden Curse, which has seen numerous players appear on covers only to suffer injury or poor play the next season. But the 2K curse shows a trend of players appearing on the cover only to leave the team in the near future.

Four of the past five years of 2K covers have featured LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Paul George, and Kyrie Irving—all four players now wear different jerseys than their cover photo. However, what we’ve seen from the character of Giannis is that of loyalty and persistence—when asked today if he would consider heading to the Lakers, he responded “My goal is to win in Milwaukee, bring a championship to the city…I would never leave for L.A.”

His mind could always change in the near future, especially if the Bucks continue their drought without a playoff series win, but for now, it seems as though Milwaukee has itself a good one.
