Wisconsin has always been “Running Back U,” and that has never been in doubt. Normally though, juniors and seniors are carrying the mantle. In the Orange Bowl, Jonathan Taylor made his mark as a true freshman.
Taylor broke the NCAA record for most rushing yards as a freshman passing both former Wisconsin Heisman winner Ron Dayne and former Oklahoma Sooner Adrian Peterson.
Taylor finished the game against Miami posting 130 rush yards pushing his freshman season total to 1,977 yards.
Peterson is now No. 2 with 1,925 rushing yards in his freshman season and Dayne is now No. 3 with 1,863 rushing yards.
The Wisconsin running back also finishes the season with 13 rushing touchdowns on the season to go along with about seven yards per carry.
Look for Taylor to be in the Heisman conversation early and often as the 2018 season gets closer and closer and look for him to build off of his historic freshman year.
