Senior linebacker Jack Cichy will forgo a chance to enter a sixth year at the University of Wisconsin and instead take his shot at a career in the NFL.

Cichy tore his ACL in fall camp and missed the entire 2017 college football season. It would have been his senior season, but due to the injury, Cichy could have applied for another season of eligibility and played on the 2018 Wisconsin football team.

“I’ve decided not to apply for a sixth year of eligibility and to instead declare for the NFL draft. I’m going to take my shot and see what happens,” Cichy said in a Player’s Tribune article.

This comes as no surprise as Cichy had walked on senior day, indicating that it was probably his last season.

In his last year of playing, 2016, the 6’2″234-pound linebacker totaled 60 tackles, broke up two passes and forced two fumbles. The season prior he totaled 8.0 sacks. Despite his injury, Cichy should go fairly high up in this coming NFL draft.

As for Wisconsin, they will be waiting on decisions from linebacker T.J. Edwards and cornerback Nick Nelson as they ponder NFL careers. If Wisconsin loses those two, they will have to replace a lot of talent and may see a drop off from this season’s top-ranked defense.
