Last weekend, the Badgers traveled to Boston and proved that they can be one of the best teams in the country. First was a 5-2 victory at Boston College, followed by a 4-1 defeat of Merrimack. These victories resulted in a spike in the polls as well. USCHO.com bumped the Badgers up to 6th in the country, while the USA Today poll slotted the Badgers in at number five.
This weekend, the Badgers are traveling again. This time, they head north to Green Bay, where they will take on a very talented Northern Michigan team. The Wildcats split a series with Lake Superior to open the season, and swept Ferris State last weekend.
As for the Badgers, they are currently firing on all cylinders. Kyle Hayton has started his Wisconsin career with a 4-1 record, .927 save percentage, and a 2.01 goals against average.
Offensively, the most impressive aspect of the early season success has been the scoring balance. 11 different Badgers have scored this year, with freshman Tarek Baker leading the way with three goals. Meanwhile, last years team scoring leader, Trent Frederic, has a point in all five games so far. Tied at five points with Frederic, Will Johnson also leads the team in points.
Defensively, the freshman seem to be holding their own. Along with Hayton, the group has only allowed 10 goals in the first five games.
Game 1: Friday @ 7 PM
Game 2: Saturday @ 5PM
Both games will be played at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
