In the last 18 hours the Badgers were able to secure two more verbal commits, bringing their current total of players born in 1999 up to five. With both commits being Wisconsin natives, it shows where the top homegrown talent wants to play. In just two years, Tony Granato has returned Wisconsin to a destination program for in-state talent.
Last night, West Salem and Team Wisconsin member Jack Gorniak tweeted his verbal commitment. Gorniak is a 14th round draft pick of the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. He was also selected as first-team all-state by the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association last year. Expect Gorniak to spend at least a season playing junior hockey before he makes the jump to the college level.
Just a few hours after Gorniak’s verbal commitment, Wausau Wisconsin native Josh Bohlin also gave his verbal commitment to Madison. Bohlin was also selected as first-team all-state by the Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association last year. In fact, Bohlin’s Wausau West team bounced Gorniak’s West Salem team from the state tournament last season. This year, the 17-year-old is in his first season for the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the USHL.
