The Wisconsin Badgers have their goaltender for the 2017-18 season, and his name is Kyle Hayton.

After first being reported a few weeks ago, some details still needed to be ironed out before Hayton could officially join the Badgers. Mainly, his graduation from St. Lawrence University. Hayton had to take the equivalent of 24 credits over the summer to graduate in time. With just five days to spare, Hayton will join the team and be able to play in the season opener.

Adding an experienced goaltender with senior leadership is almost never a bad thing. Although, with less than a month until the season starts, Hayton does not have a ton of time to get acclimated in Madison.

Hayton has said he is excited for the new challenge in his effort to play at the next level. Additionally, his consistency in the net should allow for the skaters in front of him to play more freely. Hopefully opening up the ice and letting the defensemen jump into the play offensively while playing with more confidence in the defensive zone.

Even with the loss of captain Luke Kunin, this year’s team should not only compete for a Big Ten title, but have a legitimate shot at winning the conference.
