Whispers of a potential season series between Notre Dame and Wisconsin have finally gained traction.
Per the Chicago Tribune, the series, if agreed upon, would take place in the 2020s with one game being played at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field and another at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
Both Notre Dame and Wisconsin have withheld public statements, but Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst stated ever so simply, “I don’t know where all those conversations are at, but I think it could be pretty cool.” We’re with you, Paul, that would be pretty cool.
Wisconsin and Notre Dame are two of the most premier football programs in the Midwest and each have deep roots in both locations. The Badgers played a nationally televised and instant classic of a game versus LSU last season at Lambeau which was a roaring success, while Notre Dame has played 12 games at Soldier Field without a loss.
Games at Soldier Field have been hit or miss depending on the opponent. Northwestern and Illinois played a regular season game there in 2015, but the stadium was far from full. However, a Notre Dame-Wisconsin battle would be sure to fill the Chicago stadium to the brim.
As a Badger fan, I can only hope for such a matchup to be finalized, but games like these would undoubtedly pique the interest of the nation as a whole. Until then, Madtown, keep your fingers crossed.
