UPDATE Friday, June 16 7:08pm: The Bucks officially announced Jon Horst as their GM. Here were ownership and Horst’s statements.

After former Bucks GM John Hammond left for the Orlando Magic last month, just about everyone around the league figured Justin Zanik would be the next man up in line for the position in Milwaukee. Now nearly a month later, that’s not the case.

The team search has included many people, notably Zanik, former WNBA legend and San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon, and most recently Jon Horst, Milwaukee’s President of Basketball Operations.

Horst has been with the Bucks since 2008 when he was hired by Hammond. He was reportedly heading to Orlando to follow Hammond, until he became a serious candidate to be promoted to GM.

After a contentious search and according to reports from The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it appears that the Bucks have found their man in Horst.

Prior to becoming Milwaukee’s Director of Basketball Operations in 2008, Horst was the Basketball Operations Manager of the Detroit Pistons from 2006-2008.

There was clearly a lot of disagreement in ownership for this search to have taken so many turns, but the team ultimately landed Horst. Zanik’s future remains unclear.

Per Marc Stein, the Bucks will name Jon Horst the team’s GM later in the day on Friday.
