Walt McGrory, a 6-3, 195-pound shooting guard from Minnesota, has announced he will walk-on at Wisconsin this coming fall and join the basketball team.

The Edina High School senior accepted an offer from UW head coach Greg Gard, making him a preferred walk-on, and the fourth member of the 2017 recruiting class.

McGrory, comparable in size to Zak Showalter, averaged 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists per game his senior year. He amassed a total of 2,126 career points, and was an all-conference selection every season at Edina.

According to BadgerBlitz.com, McGrory had scholarship offers from five NCAA Division I programs including Brown, Drake, Furman, Maine and South Dakota State, but the prospect of playing in the Big Ten was the chance to see a dream come true.

After seeing Showalter, another walk-on, graduate this spring, the Badgers are in need of a lock down defender who can knock down big shots in the clutch. Walt McGrory could be the next great UW walk-on, and eventually play big minutes for the Badgers.
