NEW YORK — The No. 8 Badgers lost on an overtime buzzer beater early Saturday morning, exiting the NCAA Tournament in the Sweet 16 for the second straight year.

Showalter, a Germantown native and walk-on at Wisconsin, was initially the hero of the game, as his off-balance three tied the game at 72 in regulation and sent the Badgers to overtime. After hitting the shot, he turned to where Green Bay Packers quarterback (and Wisconsin hero) Aaron Rodgers was sitting, and did Rodgers’ famous “discount double check” celebration.

The loss marks Showalter’s – and the rest of the seniors’ – final game of his Wisconsin career. He had a lot to say on the subject after the game.
