For the second straight year, it appears Wisconsin football will lose their defensive coordinator to a head coaching job, as Justin Wilcox is set to become the next head coach at Cal.

Tim Tibesar and Jim Leonhard are likely in-house candidates for the defensive coordinator job. Tibesar is currently serving as the team’s OLB coach, and Leonhard is the DB coach.

Wilcox will only get a $25,000 buyout, after he was set to make $950,000.

Wisconsin’s defense was fourth in the country this season, allowing only 15.5 points per game. Following the lead of Dave Aranda, who went on to become the defensive coordinator at LSU, Wilcox will move to another major-five conference team.

Wisconsin finished the 2016 season at 11-3 with a Cotton Bowl win over the previously-undefeated Western Michigan.
