With less than an hour to go before the 2018 NFL trading deadline, the Green Bay Packers have traded fourth year RB Ty Montgomery to the Baltimore Ravens, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In exchange, the Ravens are sending Green Bay a 7th-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

After bursting onto the scene as a running back with 162 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns in Week 15 of the 2016 season, Montgomery has seen his production fall in each of the past two seasons. In seven games this season, the converted wide receiver has received only 26 carries for 105 yards and one touchdown, in addition to 15 receptions for 170 yards. His rushing production currently ranks third on the team behind a pair of second-year backs in Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams.

The Baltimore Ravens have lacked rushing production throughout the first half of 2018, with none of their backs averaging over 3.9 yards per carry. Alex Collins currently leads the team in rushing with 98 carries for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns, and Javorius Allen is second with 38 carries for 100 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Although the Packers have better options at running back, the last straw for Montgomery occurred Sunday against the Rams, when he went against the coaches and brought the ball out for a kick return, fumbled it and cost the Packers a chance to win the game. There was talk of him getting cut Monday, but this way, Green Bay gets something for him in return from Baltimore.
