Wisconsin men’s basketball received heartbreaking news Tuesday when they learned that four-star shooting guard recruit Tyler Herro has decommitted. Herro announced his plans to reopen his college search on Twitter.

Per Badger247, Herro chose Wisconsin in September of 2016 over offers from Marquette, Arizona, Xavier, Creighton and Florida.
Herro is currently ranked as the 27th ranked prep recruit in the nation by ESPN. The high-ranking prospect was a huge land for Wisconsin basketball, but it appears his presence is no longer guaranteed.
With Herro out, Wisconsin has landed only Joe Hedstrom, their sole recruit from the class of 2018.
Certainly an unfortunate turn of events. One wonders how much the NCAA’s halfhearted investigation into UNC cleared the path for Herro’s decommittment? Thankfully Wisconsin has a plethora of options in the cupboard at the guard position – from Trice and Pritzl to the incoming freshmen Davidson and King. And let’s forget about Trevor Anderson, the Green Bay transfer. Anderson was the starting point guard for the Phoenix before he sustained his injury and I look for him to battle for starting minutes once his transfer year is over. In other words, I think we’ll be fine and I think it’s far too early to say Wisconsin is backsliding (as some on Twitter seem to suggest). Plenty of fish in the sea and as the Badgers of 2014 and 2015 proved it doesn’t matter the star next to the recruit but what the recruit does with their star.
