Joe Hedstrom announced his commitment to the Wisconsin basketball program Wednesday night. The Hopkins, Minnesota native will walk on his first season before going under scholarship starting in the 2019-2020 season.

Hedstrom, a 6’10” center, was also considering Utah, where he would’ve been under scholarship upon arriving on campus. BIG Ten basketball proved to be too tempting and Hedstrom will play at the Kohl Center, a quick four-hour drive from home.

When Hedstrom arrives on campus, the only other big man (at the moment) who will be in the program will be 2017 commit Nathan Reuvers.

“I trust the heck out Coach (Greg) Gard and Coach (Joe) Krabbenhoft, what they can do and their program speaks for itself. They are one of the best big-men developers in the country. I really just bought into that,” Hedstrom told Scout.com’s Benjamin Worgull.

Hedstrom joins 5-star commit Tyler Herro in the 2018 recruiting class. The Badgers may look to add another commit in the coming days. Wisconsin is reportedly keeping tabs on former Michigan commit Taylor Currie and Jack Hemphil.
