Today, Wisconsin senior forward Nigel Hayes headlined the 2016-2017 Preseason All-Big Ten team, as he was named the Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year and was the only unanimous selection to the 10-man team.
Hayes is coming off a season in which he averaged 15.7 points and 5.8 rebounds. Hayes is one of five players in the history of Badgers basketball to amass 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists in his career.
Joining him on the team were senior guard Bronson Koenig and redshirt sophomore forward Ethan Happ.
Last season, Koenig averaged 13.1 points and 2.8 assists, garnering himself 2016 Second Team All-Big Ten. Happ also gained postseason recognition last year with Third Team All-Big Ten honors, after averaging 12.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per contest.
The rest of the backcourt members named to the team are Maryland’s Melo Trimble, Iowa’s Peter Jok, Illinois’ Malcolm Hill, Indiana’s James Blackmon Jr., and Michigan’s Derrick Walton Jr. Making up the rest of the frontcourt are Indiana’s Thomas Bryant and Purdue’s Caleb Swanigan.
