Wisconsin football: Clement expected to play Saturday vs. Georgia State

UPDATE September 15, 2016 4:00pm CT: Corey Clement is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game.

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin’s starting running back Corey Clement left Saturday’s game against Akron after suffering a left leg injury.

“I would have played if it was closer, but seeing how we were up a lot, why risk it,” Clement said following the game. “I had to be mature about the situation not being selfish or greedy about how many more carries I could have had in the game.”

Although initial concerns were that the starting back would miss some time, it seems he will be ready to go against this week’s opponent Georgia State.

“Talking with him [Clement] yesterday, and talking to Mike Moll, our trainer,” head coach Paul Chryst said on Monday. “I’m anticipating him [Clement] going to work, practicing.”

“He’s fine,” fellow running back and team captain Dare Ogunbowale told SST on Tuesday. “I think he’s feeling back up to speed and he’ll be out there.” Ogunbowale sounded certain that Clement will be out there on Saturday, pending a setback.

Prior to leaving the game, Clement rushed for 111 yards on 21 carries for two touchdowns. As Wisconsin moves forward into their Big Ten schedule, the Badgers will need Clement to be at his best.

Wisconsin takes on Georgia State on Saturday at Camp Randall with kickoff at 11am CT.
